FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE

Understand human behaviour, communication, and interaction as shaped by social/cultural contexts
Assess, evaluate, and understand individual, family and group behaviours
Appreciate contemporary social, community and ethical issues and related public policy
Implement and understand social work interventions for individuals, families, and other groups
Critically understand the histories, functions, and limitations of important social welfare organizations

Sample Courses: Meeting Human Needs through Social Welfare, Social Work and Violence, Feminist Social Work, Theory and Practice of Social Work with Individuals, Social Policy and Social Welfare, Field Education

All programs require successful completion of the OSS Diploma and a minimum 70% average of six Grade 12 U or M courses, including ENG4U. English Language Requirements: A minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or A minimum score of 60 on the Carleton University’s Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL); or A minimum score of 60 on the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE); or A minimum overall score of 176 on the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or the Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE); or Successful completion of the University of Windsor's English Language Improvement Program (ELIP) (level III) with a minimum final grade of 75%; or A minimum score of 85 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB); or A minimum score of 220 with a T.W.E. 4.5 on the Computer-based Test, 83 with an essay score of 20 on the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (T.O.E.F.L.).
