Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology is first offered at the Faculty of Food Science and Biotechnology in 1986 and later has been placed under the Faculty of Biotechnology and Bimolecular Sciences (FBSB) that was established on 1 August 2004. Under FBSB, the name of the program has been changed to Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology with Honours and offered by the Department of Bioprocess Technology.

Programme Outcomes

The learning outcomes of the Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology with Honours are divided into two based on the learning outcomes specified by the Program Standards: Biotechnology and learning outcomes according to the University's requirements based on the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF). Overall, after following this program, graduate will be able to:

Exhibit knowledge and comprehensive understanding in biotechnology;

Use basic equipment related to biotechnology;

Analyze, synthesize, and integrate knowledge and information;

Apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills;

Conduct basic guided research;

Demonstrate the ability to seek, adapt and provide solutions to address biotechnology challenges and problems;

Practice the concept of lifelong learning;

Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the basic issues of entrepreneurship and commercialization, ethics, legislation and social related to biotechnology;

Show their communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Career Information

Career in biotechnology is noteworthy for supporting the development of various industries in Malaysia, these include agriculture, livestock, food, medicine, manufacturing, and waste management. This is in line with The National Biotechnology Policy 2005-2020, which aims to develop the biotechnology field as one of the engine of economic growth. The policy focuses on the development of three economic sectors; namely agriculture, healthcare, and industrial manufacturing, as well as supporting the development of ecosystems that cater for scientific, academic and business communities.
