Information Engineering and Management provides the graduate with the tools to effectively engineer, manage, and utilize the data collection and information flow of an organization by developing technical and management skills required in the age of Big Data via a unique curriculum combining software, networking, hardware, technology, and management along with data-driven modeling and computational skills.

Degree Requirements

The minimum credit hour requirement for the master’s degree in the Lyle School of Engineering is 30 credit hours beyond the baccalaureate, of which six credit hours may be in a thesis. Additional hours may be required depending on the student’s background, objectives of the degree program and the demands of the discipline.

In addition to meeting the Lyle School of Engineering degree requirements for an M.S. degree, candidates are required to satisfy the following additional requirements:

Core Courses

Satisfactory completion of the following five (5) core courses:

EMIS 7300 - Systems Analysis Methods

EMIS 7370 - Probability and Statistics for Scientists and Engineers

EMIS 8360 - Operations Research Models

EMIS 7352 - Information Systems Architecture
EMIS 7353 - Information System Design Strategies
EMIS 7357 - Analytics for Decision Support
EMIS 7360 - Management of Information Technologies

Specialty Courses

Satisfactory completion of two (2) specialization courses selected from:

EMIS 7331 - Data Mining
EMIS 7361 - Computer Simulation Techniques
EMIS 8356 - Global Perspectives for Information Engineering
EMIS 8360 - Operations Research Models

Concentration Courses

Satisfactory completion of a coherent nine credit hour concentration approved by the adviser.

Applicants must have Completed a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a regional accrediting association or completion of an international degree that is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing. English Proficiency Requirements: TOEFL English language proficiency test score: 550 – paper based examination; 213 – computer based examination; 80 – Internet based examination overall score. A score of 6.5 on the IELTS English language proficiency examination is acceptable in place of the above scores for the TOEFL examination.
