The Studio Art program is designed to provide a broad art experience. The eight courses of the studio minor include Art History and classes selected from seven areas of specialization: Ceramics, Digital Art, Drawing, Jewelry/Metals, Oil Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Watercolor. This program provides a cohesive artistic introduction to media, technical skills, and conceptual skills.

Studio Art is dedicated to excellence in all forms of art creation, research, and education. The department has a highly active faculty who exhibit nationally and internationally, and whose scholarly work is consistently cited for its excellence. Students enrolled in this major have the opportunity to participate in student exhibitions and attend art field trips, and they are encouraged to discover and develop their own artistic expressions.

Career paths

The Studio Art program challenges students to express themselves clearly and creatively, in a variety of mediums. Art students develop the ability to manage multiple projects and work successfully in groups, preparing them for success in a variety of fields: Antiques Dealer; Art Conservator; Art Consultant; Art Critic; Art Historian; Art Therapist; Gallery Administrator; Jewelry Designer; Photojournalist; Sculptor; Teacher; Textile Designer; Web Designer.

Student Exhibits

The Gardiner Gallery of Art exhibits often include the student and faculty exhibitions as well as international and national artists. The gallery also features faculty and student curated shows and traveling exhibitions.

OSU Museum of Art

Students play a vital role in every aspect of the museum's operation. We offer opportunities that allow students to be involved in all areas of museum work such as installing exhibitions, writing labels, working with faculty to design exhibitions, and helping with the day-to-day operations by serving as guards and working in visitor services positions.
