COURSE OVERVIEW

LCCM’s MSc in Entertainment Science is a specialist master’s degree for career entry or development for those involved or interested in a career in entertainment management. This programme has a particular focus on digital content marketing and decision-making using data insights and practical theory.

The 12-month intensive programme aims to help you develop an integrated and critical understanding of the unique nature and defining characteristics of entertainment content, and how research and insights in consumer behaviour can help improve your decision-making and indicate replicable strategies for success in this sector.

The academic year begins with Research and Academic Practice and Entertainment Analytics modules, which will see students conduct research using various entertainment data sources, test their ideas, and communicate their findings and reflections in written and spoken arguments. In the second term, students will build on their findings to produce a range of business planning and pitching documents, as well as learning established strategies for digital distribution and marketing of entertainment content. In the final term, learners will undertake a project, guided by tutors, whilst gaining deeper knowledge of innovative professional practice delivered via case studies in leadership, strategic management and entrepreneurial release strategies.

You will gain an integrated and critically aware understanding of the unique nature and defining characteristics of entertainment content (music, TV, video games, podcasts, movies, internet radio, VR/AR etc.) and how research and insights in consumer behaviour can help improve decision-making and indicate replicable strategies for success. Entertainment content is unique, and many of the traditional marketing and management strategies taught in business schools do not work in this sector - this is not to say there are no identifiable and replicable strategies for success - there are, and you will learn them on this master’s - the first of its kind anywhere in the world. The modern entertainment industry is fuelled by digital content competing for engaged (or more likely, highly distracted) audiences. Big data is the new oil as commercial success depends on and creates vast swathes of user insights and metrics from streaming and social media platforms. Understanding how to evaluate and communicate this data is likely to be the most sought-after skill in the modern workplace and the most valuable for any entrepreneur. Learning and using practical theory, specifically tailored to the unique nature of the entertainment sector, will anchor your data analysis, business planning and entertainment projects with credible strategies for success and meaningful insights on your fans and consumers.
