Language is the primary medium of human culture and expression. Our programs in Italian open doors to new ways of understanding the world through the study of language, culture and literature. You’ll delve into the language of Dante and Manzoni and share your passion with 85 million speakers of Italian. Starting from the four basic language skills speaking, listening, reading and writing our programs integrate innovative approaches to the study of Italian and expose students to a diversity of related aspects such as language, translation, culture and literature. Language and Translation: Italian language and translation courses will develop all basic language skills that provide students with writing and translation techniques transferable to many future career paths. Culture and Literature: Italian culture and literature courses serve as a window into the past and present of Italian thought and achievement. Through the study of great classics and the examination of developments through the centuries, students are exposed to many facets of the Italian culture from early Roman beginnings to the present. Concentrations: Honours in Italian (60 credits); Major in Italian (42 credits); Minor in Italian (30 credits). All Italian program options provide students with a sound linguistic foundation that will prove advantageous in a variety of careers or future studies, including: education; translation and interpretation; international business; government; travel industry; international organizations.
