The BA (Hons) Teaching and Learning in the Primary Phase with QTS (Top-Up) is one of very few top-up qualifications in England designed to enable you to gain qualified teacher status alongside a degree level qualification. This programme ultimately enables you to teach in a primary or Early Years setting. It has been created to build on your previous knowledge and school experience to develop your skill-set and into that of a qualified teacher. You can choose to be trained to teach across one of three nationally recognised routes (3-7 years, 7-11 years, or 5-11 years). It is an innovative combination of teaching and learning that results in a less intensive pathway into teaching than other routes can provide.**Course details**This programme is structured so you spend one full day a week in College, during which you will undertake four core 20 credit modules as well as a 40 credit independent study module. The programme has been designed to facilitate you to continue working by spreading the academic load across both years of study. It encompasses a blended learning approach, combining face to face sessions with online and practical work as appropriate. The learning and teaching methods typically used by tutors include: lectures; external experts; tutorials and practical activities. We will also join other programmes for some generic and enrichment sessions.You will be required to undertake a significant amount of independent personal study, for example, background reading and assignment work. This will be further enhanced by a social learning community, including a peer support network and enhanced personal and academic tutoring.
